After being told by pickets that wages at Watsonville Canning Co. are $4.25 an hour, Mark Lunn, 24, and his friend (left) decided to return home to Monterey. The two, who had been laid off from construction jobs in Monterey, said they weren't aware of a labor dispute when they were told the company was hiring. "I'd be striking too if I was making $4.25," Lunn said.
